The Daily Beer and BikeLog Jan 7, 2015: Dragon's Milk Not just something out of Game Of Thrones

So today I am reaching back a few weeks to my Christmas vacation. With the exception of a few jogs with my dog not much in the way of Bike adventures or even excercise. But I did find a new favorite beer I would love to share.

Dragon's Milk Stout from New Holland Brewing  is a Stout with a roasted Malt flavor that has some nice vanilla taste to it that goes down with that hint of oaky bourbon.

With 11% Alcohol it also has a kick.  It is a Bourbon Barrel Stout (this is where I want to go once I start making beer myself, I love that oak taste added to the beer.

So the story behind this beer was over the holidays I was with the wife as she went to a wine and cheese place, to pick up well wine and cheese. While she was chatting with the lady about what cheeses to purchase I went to the beer isle. I always like to see if a store I am not normally in has something diferent. I found a few, then I cam across the Dragon's Milk. The few things that caught my attention were, it was a Stout, and I am on a stout kick. It was a bourbon Barrel Stout and that is my end goal, once I perfect my own brewing, to age the beers in bourbon or whisky barrels. and last was the hint of vanilla. I love the coffee stouts, and tried some mocha stouts but I have always liked the taste of vanilla. So I was sold, except that a 4 pack was almost 16 bucks. At that moment a little too much for my taste. I instead bought a six pack of Stone Brewings Coiffe stout. I loved Stones coffe stout, but it bothered me and I still wanted to try the Dragon's Milk. We went to the supermarket a few days later and there it was a 22oz Bottle of Dragon's Milk for 7 bucks. That I could handle.

I bought it and brought it out to a family Christmas get together, my wife is pregnant and can't try much with me right now so I split the bottle with my Sister in law (side not a 22oz bottle you pretty much can fill two pub glasses so one beer each on this one) Still worth it. The taste was fantastic, in relation to other Stouts I am giving this one a 9.5 out of 10, I think it only came short because I only got through one glass, given another it may have pushed the 10 mark. Now against my Go To Sam Adams Octoberfest I still give it a 9 out of 10. Very Good Stout I would highly recomend to anyone who enjoys Bourbon aged Stouts.

Disclaimer: I am no expert in anything on this blog as it states it is a Beginners journey into Mountain Biking and Beer Brewing. These are just opinion and observation pieces through my eyes as things happen. It is my personal journal for the world to see, that is all. Anything technical I would always refer you to some sort of expert, be it a brewer, or bike shop.
