The Daily Beer and Bike Log: Jan. 13, 2015 From My Youth Rad Movie Brings Back Memories

I don't know how many of you out there remember the movie RAD,

now I know this is not Mountain biking it is from the world of BMX and 80's BMX at that. You know the great clothes and wonderful big hair era....

But this is around the time, my love for bike riding was at it's peak as a kid, where it all started for me. I remember being a BMX rider and there was not much out there in the entertainment world for us back then. Yes the occasional magazine. When I could scrape together a few bucks (Magazines were if I remember correctly around two or three bucks)

No Netflix or YouTube to find people riding or even documentaries about our favorite thing to do. So RAD and BMX Bandits with a very young Nichole Kidman, that hair huh?

That is what what we had.  At some other point I will go over BMX Bandits but for now...RAD

Rad was the story of  Cru Jones,

a young man who can overcome all obstacles that prevent him from participating in the BMX race "Helltrack." As he works towards his dream, Cru falls in love with Christian, an amateur racer.

With the help of Christian and her friends, can Cru's "Rad Racing Team" defeat the top BMX factory rider, Bart Taylor ?

Really it is kind of the Karate kid or any small time guy beats the giant machine storyline. But "Helltrack" the race track in the film added a whole new dimension to racing, Cru was not only trying to defeat Bart but also Helltrack.

This was also the very first time at least for me I saw a Backflip jump done on a bike. I nearly killed myself trying to get enough speed to even try this shit.

Okay So whty am I talking about a BMX movie on a Mountain Bike blog? Well one it's my blog I can do what I want. But really the tricks that back then seemed amazing to me in my small bike world are tricks that the pro riders and even the good mountain bike riders are doing and have gone way beyond.

I think when I started to gravitate back toward the world of biking (if you cut out the reason of family time and excercise for my chubby ass) it was watching some of the tricks and things these riders were doing on the trails, it brought me back to that era of RAD and my BMX (minus the bad styles of the 80's)

At 41 years old it makes me feel young at heart to get on that bike and ride, and no I still can't do a backflip, but the small jumps and the speed of riding the trails (even just getting out and riding the concrete bike paths) make me feel like a kid again. Now if someone could rerelease RAD on DVD, Blu-ray or just Netflix that would be great...

Disclaimer: I am no expert in anything on this blog as it states it is a Beginners journey into Mountain Biking and Beer Brewing. These are just opinion and observation pieces through my eyes as things happen. It is my personal journal for the world to see, that is all. Anything technical I would always refer you to some sort of expert, be it a brewer, or bike shop.
